George M. Bright, M.D., an adolescent medicine specialist in the Richmond, Virginia area, is the medical director of the Adolescent Health Center USA. Other members of our professional staff are a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Professional Counselor, an Educational Consultant, and an Academic Specialist. In addition, we make direct referrals to an Art Specialist and an English/Writing Specialist.

An equally important component of our treatment protocol is Blackwater Outdoor Experiences, a therapeutic outdoor program for adolescents and young adults designed to create positive self-esteem and peer interactions.

Because a child, adolescent, or adult with learning difficulties and/or attention problems affects the entire family, we believe that:

  • A team approach is the most effective approach in diagnosing and treating the medical, psychological, and educational needs of children, adolescents and adults.

  • Clients exhibiting symptoms of ADD/ADHD should receive a complete psycho-educational evaluation.

  • Parents need their own advocate when working with school personnel through the Child Study, Eligibility, 504, and Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) processes.

  • Parents want to have positive relationships with their children, thus they want to learn effective methods of home management and effective communication.
